The Hajostek family history has been a work-in-progress for over thirty years. The advent of the internet has been a great help, but it is true that over the years much information is irretrievably lost. Hearsay information turns out to be unreliable, at times. I have encounterred at least one instance where I suspect that a birth took place, but no record of it has been found. So, dear reader please be aware that a family history can never be better than an approximation. |
Overview |
My name is Jack Hajostek. I was born in 1935 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. I am a retired engineer, living in Wisconsin, USA. My grandfather's name was Steven Hajostek and he was born in Lackova, Slovakia in 1873. He died in Chicago in 1939. My Grandmother's name was Julia Budinski and she was born in Straczena (today Stratena), Slovakia. She died in Chicago, in 1937. |
To date (October, 2006), it appears that the entire Hajostek/Hayostek family traces back to John Hajostek/Anna in 1712 or Joseph Hajostek/Sophia Kolodze in 1713, both living in Inferioris Villa, probably Ruzbach. It appears that John was witness at the Joseph/Sophia wedding. |
We will never know exactly what drove all of our ancesters to get on a train, travel four hundred miles, get on a rusty old ship of dubious tenacity and stick it out for twelve days in a greasy bilge, and then arrive on a foreign shore, a bit sick, and tired. Freedom, fame, fortune, happiness, hope, freedom from compulsory militart service, freedom from fear, all are possible motives. |
The earliest church marriage record of a Hajostek/Haiostek that I have found is in the year 1675. |
The earliest church record of a Hajostek/Haiostek that I have found is an obituary,in the year 1707. |
